How to Ensure a Successful Install

Our shed pricing includes the shed you specify, its delivery to your site and its installation. If we are faced with challenges that extend the normal construction times, then extra charges are required to compensate us for the additional time and effort we have to expand to complete the job. If you follow the steps listed below, we both can be assured of NO SURPRISES and no extra expenses:

STAKE OUT THE SHED in its exact location. Use stakes in all corners and string to connect all the stakes together to enable you fully visualize the shed as it will be installed, and to see if there are any obstructions, such as septic tanks, trees, shrubs, large boulders, fences, etc.

SPACE TO WORK - Home builders utilize an entire lot while construction is in progress. While building your shed, we need space equal to at least an extra half the length and width of your shed. The minimum space needed by our workers to bring-in all the materials and tools and complete the project, is 3 feet on ALL sides.

PERMITTING and ZONING - It is the client’s responsibility to arrange for all permits and approvals from all the local regulatory agencies and boards as well as to meet local "setback" requirements. We build the shed to your specifications only and can not be held responsible or incur delays due to any local regulations.

HOW LEVEL IS THE SITE - Ground surfaces may look relatively level with natural vegetation, but may leave a building looking unstable or inaccessible from an access ramp due to elevation problems. To ensure an attractive and highly usable building, ensuring that the foundation is as level as possible is very important. By using a long 2-by-4 piece of lumber, lined up between your stakes, will allow you to gauge how level the location is.

FOUNDATION OPTIONS:

  1. BEST - (Required for sizes above 20' long) Contracting a local mason to pour a concrete foundation to the exact measurements of your new shed will ensure a strong, level foundation and anchor the building solidly to the ground.
  2. BETTER - (Only for sizes under 20' long) Clear the ground, level it as best as possible with 3/4" blue-stone that will also aid in drainage.
  3. GOOD - (Only for sizes under 20' long) Clear the ground and use some sand or small stones to level as much as possible
  4. ACCEPTABLE - (Only for sizes under 20' long) Clear the ground and remove brush and limbs as much as possible.

OBSTACLES - Trees, overhanging limbs, stumps, fences within the 3 foot work area around your new shed are all obstructions and hazards while working on your new shed. Please ensure that they are not present when we arrive at the site.

ACCESSABILITY - Our delivery trucks are 8 feet wide and 12 feet tall in order to carry your entire new shed and our tools used in its construction. Our workers will carry your shed materials and their tools up to a distance of 50ft as part of our standard pricing. Any distance beyond 50ft from where the truck can park and where the shed is to be erected is subject to an extra distance charge. If that distance is over 50ft, please specify at the time of the quotation so we can include it in our price and our estimate of the time required for that extra effort.

ELECTRICAL POWER - We use a 14amp compressor plus a 14amp Skill-Saw and need an outlet able to supply such power and be no more than 100ft away. If the outlet is over a 100ft away, please inform us in advance, so we can bring extra heavy-duty extension cords.

SPECTATORS, CHILDREN & PETS - We believe in safety first and curiosity may be a hazard. Our nail-guns occasionally fire strays and we want to make sure your family and pets are safe at all times. In order for us to focus on constructing your shed safely, we must ask that you, your children and pets are kept a safe distance away until the time that we "turn the keys over to you."

Deposit - At Salt Spray Sheds we require a 50% deposit on all buildings. If paying by Credit Card we need the charge approved by your bank 24 hours in advance of delivery.

THANK YOU, for taking time to review these guidelines to insure a successful installation. We find both professional and personal satisfaction in installing back-yard structures for our clients who appreciate the intense and concentrated effort required to install a complete shed in less than a day, on a previously unfamiliar site.
